Annadan Madhukari Bhiksha
Madhukari Bhiksha or Annadan Seva is one of the significant seva performed at Shri Kshetra Ganagapur. The word “Madhukari“ is termed as Bhikshatana , sacred tradition followed in Hinduism or Sanatana dharma in practice since ages by monks, Brahmacharis, Yogis, sadhus and Satpurushas.
Bhiksha has got most significance in Avadhoota, Natha, Datta Yogic, and Sanyasa Sampradayas. Shri Guru Narasimha Saraswati which is incarnation of God Dattatreya assured everyone as per below saying
Vasati Raani Sangamase,
Jate Nitya Bikshese.
Taya Vare Ganagapurase
Madhyana Kale Pareyasa
(From Adhyay 51st, Shri Guru Charitra)
The above Marathi words interpret Datta Guru himself assured his devotees that he will be living perpetually and seeking Bhiksha at Shri Kshetra Ganagapur in the after-noon time just after the Maha-Naivedya Aarti (Performed at Nirgun Math) while the time is usually known as “Chowghad” (Playing drums and other instruments). At That particular time, it is believed that Datta Guru himself was in camouflage and sought Bhiksha / Madhukari/Annadan from every other house in Ganagapur.
Since ancestral the same tradition is followed as Madhukari / Annadaan / Bhiksha Seva every other day. It is one Blessedness to perform Madhukari Seva and also to seek Madhukari as Prasadam at this auspicious time of the day from at least 5 houses as a prasad of God Dattatreya and main Prasad of Ganagapur.
It is even mentioned in Shri Guru Charitra that Shri Narasimha Saraswati keeps wandering, seeking Bhiksha and blessing through their guidance by enlightening to his devotees / followers from place to place. In the 5th Adhyay of Shri Guru Charitra, we can see the instance, where Datta Guru in camouflage visits the house of Appalaraj and Sumati for seeking Bhiksha. Through their devotion and Bhakti, Datta Guru was pleased and ends up blessing the couple that he shall incarnate by taking birth as their son. From the 18th Adhyay of Shri Guru Charitra will get to know that, Datta Guru while at Narsobawadi goes to a poor Brahman’s home at Amarapur and out of compassion decides to halt or remove (end) the Brahmins poverty. Datta Guru uproots a plant called Ghevada- Avarekalu in Kannada (common bean or Hyacinth Bean), the bean which was the main source of food for the family. Brahmins family was anxious of upcoming days and how to lead life when the life line of the plant has been taken away by God, Then the poor Brahmin later discovers while throwing out the remaining parts of plant a pot which contains full of Gold/Gold coins at the place as blessings from Datta Guru which helped to remove the poverty of the one who believes Guru.
In the 22nd Adhyay of Shri Guru Charitra, we can see that Shri Nrusimha Saraswati Saw an old barren Buffalow which has passed many years without giving a single drop of milk in a brahman’s house, Swami has just put his hand in back side of buffalo and with his divine power of swami had graced in which the same buffalo started to give milk like a flowing river for which devotees can go through Guru Charitra Holy Book.
(To understand all the Guru’s miracles and to know more one must read Guru Charitra at least once in their lifetime. We are sure many devotees got a life lesson and turning point/Success/Desire fulfillment after reading Guru Charitra once)
When he came to Ganagapur to seek Bhiksha, wherever Shri Datta Guru had been, he, out of his eternal compassion and divine blessings, uplifted the well-being of his Devotees.
Many Saints/ Satpurushas/ Sadhus have witnessed God taking madhukari in the prescribed time of 12-1 PM near and around by temple.
